Question:
How can a firmware update be carried out?
Answer:
The hand-held scanner BCS 36x8ex series has an associated firmware.
The firmware used by BARTEC is original from Zebra (manufacturer of the non Ex-version) and is not modified by BARTEC.
The firmware can be updated by use of the Zebra “123 Scan Utility”.
There are different firmware versions available:
- corded version of the BCS 3608ex series
- Bluetooth version of the BCS 3678ex series with base station

Troubleshooting:
If the firmware update cannot be performed:
- Make sure the 123 Scan Utility is up to date.
- Corrupted software installation: The 123Scan application configuration file is corrupted (often indicated by the error message "Application Configuration File Corrupted"). Reinstalling 123Scan: If the program freezes or displays configuration errors, uninstall 123Scan, delete the folder C:\ProgramData\123Scan2 (or the chosen installation path), and reinstall the software. See also the article on the 123Scan Utility.
Attention: You will need to manually reinstall the BARTEC plugins. - Check that the scanner is connected to the PC via USB.
The scanner is not properly connected in communication mode (HID/IBM handheld via USB). - For Bluetooth scanners, check that the battery is at least 50% charged.
- Missing or outdated scanner plug-in: Newer decoder boards or newer scanner revisions are not automatically recognized by older 123Scan versions. This is because the corresponding .scnplg plug-in is missing.
- Update the plugin. See also the article about plugins.
- Check if the firmware for a different model or an incorrect sub-variant has been accidentally downloaded or selected.
